Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
